Now it's easy to print labels in Reporting Services
While Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services is a great tool, it has a few limitations (some bydesign) that make printing certain reports difficult if not impossible. One type are the Avery Mailing Labels (or similiar type) that print on laser or inkjet printers.
That is where I come in. My name is Jim Richmond I am an independent contractor and I have worked for numerous clients designing and developing custom reports in Reporting Services, Crystal Reports and various other reporting packages.
After getting quite a few requests from clients to print labels in SQL Server Reporting Services, I decided to package the reports I had created along with detailed instructions. Now I am offering this package online with ReportPax - Labels. This complete package gives you everything you need to quickly print laser or inkjet labels.

Is it hard to use the templates?
No, my report templates do all the hard work for you. All the code is contained in the report. There are three steps:
1) Change the report Data Set to point to your data.
2) Update the fields on the report to use your data fields.
3) Print
Included with the templates are detailed instructions with screen shots.

- Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2003/2005/2008
(Note: Only VS2005/VS2008 includes the ReportViewer Component) - Internet Explorer 5.5+
Why is it hard to print labels from SQL Server Reporting Services?
One of the main features of reporting services is the ability to print from a web page and easily export to multiple formats. In order to facilitate this, Microsoft had to sacrifice some of the advanced formatting features found in other reporting packages. One feature that is missing is the ability to easily print in multiple columns. The report templates that I have created overcome this limitation and make it real easy to print labels.
In order to print labels in Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, two values have to be automatically and dynamically calculated based on how many labels you have to print. These two values are:
a) How many labels to print per page and
b) How many columns will there be per page.
Once you are able to calculate these values, you have to painstakingly set up the margins and the spacing so the data will line up correctly on the labels.
Save your time
It's simply a matter of how much your time is worth. These report templates will save you the hassle and get you printing your labels quickly.
Lifetime Upgrades
Anytime additions are made to the product you will be able to download the product again. A good example of the value of this benefit is when I recently added support for the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 ReportViewer Component. Existing customers were allowed to get the latest updates.
